9/11 Healing Field

Last night we visited the Healing Field at Tempe Beach Park.  We were able to enjoy a short program containing bagpipe music, taps, the national anthem, and a speaker.  The speaker was a former NYC police officer who had survived after being buried in ruble when the North tower collapsed.  It was a nice evening and I think a good opportunity to teach our girls more about 9/11.

As written in the program:  "Yellow ribbons designate "First Responders" which are along the perimeter encircling those within; even in death the first responders "protect & serve".

This fireman was very kind and patient with all the children who wanted to have a picture taken with him.  Our camera battery was all but dead, so the camera took longer to take the picture, which is why he doesn't look as super-nice as he really was. =)

This was fun to walk on at night with the lights.
